strawberries

I never really trust grocery store berries to be as tasty as those from the farmers' market. These were huge -- six berries made a bowlful. I sliced them and tossed with a few spoons of sugar, and let them generate some juices. Then I added a little bit of balsamic vinegar and a good grinding of black pepper. Yum! Now if only spring would arrive. I am tired of gray skies and chilly rain.

Ten Tags

Finally I had a day off and was in the mood to create something, other than knitting. So I made 10 tags out of watercolor paper, cutting the tags with my sizzix, stamping and spritzing dyes and sparkle. The heart on each tag is a laser cut heart that I colored by spraying dye on it. Ten nearly identical tags -- this is just one of them.

Signs of Spring

It was a warm, sunny walk home from work this evening, and it was wonderful to see so many signs of spring in my neighborhood. The crocuses are my favorite. It is hard to believe that they were buried in snow just one week ago.

Jonah

Yesterday, I read this amazing and inspiring story in the online Winston-Salem Journal about a newborn boy with a rare genetic disorder that affects his skin (EB, it's called for short) and can be fatal. The picture above is a link to his mother's blog.

Snow Day

We had a nice snowstorm overnight. By mid-morning, the snow had stopped, the sun was peeking through the clouds, and I was out shoveling. It didn't take me long. A plow came by the side street while I was shoveling, but a plow has not come past the front of my house yet.

At 9:30 a.m., however, when I took these pictures, no plows had come by.

Clapotis

I finished the clapotis from knitty.com -- the one that I started for my vacation a week ago. I didn't knit a stitch for almost a week after I returned home, then finished it this weekend. I used the Noro Kureyon sock yarn, colors 40 and 240, alternating 2-row stripes of each color. It made quite a riot of color. I like the way that it turned out.
